My biggest take away from this course is what I've learned about what other women and children live through every day in other parts of the world. The safety and security we take for granted everyday is truly a luxury. The day to day actives that we do with out a second thought many of them can't do and probably don't even realize they exist. We will stand in line to buy a $600 iPhone and not think twice about the women on the other side of the world that can't make the decision to take birth control to save her life or the lives of the children that she already has and can't feed. This time of year so many are Black Friday shopping and decorating for the holidays, remember to give thanks for all that you have and the things you take for greeted. I can't say that I would be able to go to these villages and help first hand but I can, going forward, remember those less fortunate than myself in my prayers and look for opportunities to assist from home.

  1. I agree with you, we are sometimes so blinded by our own privileges that we tend to forget about the struggle many women and children from around the world have to go through. We are caught up in our own consumption that we ignore the importance of giving to those with lesser resources. We should absolutely give thanks for what we have as well as recognize the importance of helping those who struggle with their own injustices here at home as well as in other countries.

  2. It's a shame that more people vote for American Idol than in any election we have, while others around the world are struggling to find ways to feed their families. I know that I have taken a long look at myself after watching Half the Sky, and A Powerful Noise...while there are things about our country that I do think need to change (healthcare should not be a profitable business for insurance or pharmaceutical companies, for one!), I know that I am very blessed to live in America, and I can certainly volunteer more of my time to find ways to bless those that are less fortunate - here, and around the globe.

  3. We take a lot of things we have for granted and I think that if for one minute we were able to witness the suffering throughout the rest of the world we would change. After seeing the videos during this course it has opened my eyes to how people in other countries aren't as fortunate to have the things that I have. It also is heartening that our culture has influenced the ways that other countries think, and that there are simple minded American's who think that it simply isn't our fault that theses countries are the way they are.
